Natalia Gavrilan – mezzo-soprano born in Chisinau, the winner of the several awards in international competitions such as Mikhail Glinka Contest, Francisco Viñas Singing Contest, Alexei Stârcea Contest. She started her opera study at the age of 15, taking private lessons from Polina Botezat, the Moldova Music Academy professor.
Then she enters the Academy and graduates being in professor Vladimir Dragosh class.
During the study in the Academy she takes part in the master-classes of Irina Arkhipova and in the concerts seria “Irina Arkhipova Presents”. After she graduated with honors from the Moldova Music Academy, she enters The Teatro alla Scala Academy of Lyric Opera, where improving proffessional excellence during the 2 years with the masters of world scene: Leila Gencer, Luciana Serra, Riccardo Muti, Luiggi Alva, Leo Nucci. After she graduated The Teatro alla Scala Academy she married the concertmaster of Teatro alla Scala and continued living and working in Italy.
Since the year 2000 Natalia Gavrilan continues collaboration with the following theatres and festivals: Teatro alla Scala (Milano), The Metropolitan Opera (New York), San Carlos (Lissabon), Opera in Catalunia, Il Teatro Massimo (Palermo), Il Teatro Petruzelli (Bari), Il Teatro Politeama (Lecce), Il Teatro di Cilea (Reggio Calabria), Il Comunale (Reggio Emilia), Il Teatro Filarmonico (Verona), Il Comunale (Modena), Grand Theater di Geneve, Rossini Opera Festival (Pesaro), Auditorium Nacional (Madrid), MiTo festival (Milano), Printemps des Arts (Monte Carlo), Baltic Seasons festival (Kaliningrad), Byzantine Culture festival (Istanbul), Teatro alla Scala Mexican tour.
Natalia Gavrilan cooperated with conductors like R. Abbado, R. Muti, A. Zedda, M. Mariotti, Ingo Metzmacher, D. Renzetti, E. Mazzola, P. Carignani, J. Webb, Y. Temirkanov, M. Tatarnikov; and directors like Pier Luigi Pizzi, Paul Curran, Terry Gilliam, Cristof Loy, E. Sagi, L. Pasqual, D. Michieletto, M. Gandini.
She took part in the following historical performances: “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” J.P. Ponnelle (Teatro alla Scala), “Le nozze di Figaro” G. Streller (Teatro alla Scala), “Cosi fan tutte” G. Streller (Teatro Piccolo di Milano), “Cosi fan tutte” M. Hampe (Teatro alla Scala).
Actively collaborates with “I Cameristi del teatro alla Scala” chamber orchestra, performing many concerts in Milano, Rieti Opera Festival and in Amman, Jordan, at the invitation of Italian Embassy.
Since the year 2007 Natalia Gavrilan is engaged in vocals teaching activities. During the 5 years she was invited as a vocal technique coach in Opera in Catalunia.
